Generally, thank you notes should be written on cards and sent with a lick and a stamp, rather than a click and ‘publish.’ But - today we’re making an exception. So in the future, try to do as I say, not as I do.
When should you send a ‘Thank You’ note?
- You receive a gift
- You win an awesome brand new Nintendo Wii
- After a job interview
- You are on the receiving end of a random or unexpected act of kindness
- Your neighbor shovels your drive
- A friend offers to babysit for free
- The girl at the Jack In The Box drive thru hooks you up with a free Christmas Jack Antenna Ball! (Yup, it’s okay to be jealous)

What are the seven elements of a Thank You Note?
- The Salutation - Dear TrueBlueTitan,
- The Thank You - Thank you so much for randomly drawing my name as the winner of your super duper contest featuring the Nintendo Wii.
- Highlight the appropriateness of the gift or favor - I don’t know if you know this, but my mother is Korean, and Japan (where Nintendo is from) is not very far from Korea. In fact I looked on a map today and it’s like half an inch away. How perfect!
- Tie the appropriateness of the gift with the gift giver -Your internet entrepreneurship blog is really rad, just like the Wii.
- If the gift was money, talk about how you will spend it. Or write about how you are going to use the gift - Hopefully my blog won’t suffer too much as I plan on spending many hours this holiday season at the Wii bowling lanes.
- Write a line to update the gift giver on your life - Timmy got his leg out of the cast and I’m no longer suffering from that nasty head cold so things are looking better.
- Sign the Thank You Note - With Thanks, How2Blogger.
Don’t be sad if you didn’t win a Wii yourself. Not all of us can be winners. Well, actually you still can be, lucky for you. If you want a Wii - you could still win a Wii over at Contest Beat or if you’d rather just have some stinking cash, say $100 bucks, well I’m giving that away in my own little contest!

Well you lucky little bikini-clad blogger you! How will you help the world with your new Wii(would like to play)? I’m copying your post to my computer so I can use it for all my thank-you notes this coming Christmas. You are a total humanitarian; even in your moment of glory, you still GIVE. You’re a GIVER. I love you man. Say, how far away from Texas do you live and do you have a sofa someone could crash on for a few months while they’re learning to play your new Wii(would like to play) with you? See, that Wii(would like to play) commercial has blasted itself into my brain cells.

lol - I’m in Vegas now though I was in Texas for about 8 years, SA and Houston. And yes, I do have a sofa - though it might be moving to make room for all the Wii fun…

You do know you’re going to have to sell the Wii on Ebay because I need new lingerie. Congrats. I won an iPod Touch and I’ll hopefully be getting it Monday, (it’s taken over a month, they sent me the wrong item to begin with). That’s actually the first time in my life I have won anything.
Are you gonna let me play with your controls?

Congrats on winning the much sought after Wii. Your contest entry was uniquely woven into a “How to” post. Well done! Have fun with your new toy, while we green-eyed, sour-grape monster sulk under the faked X’mas tree! LOL!!

Congratulations again! The Wii was packaged up early Saturday morning and is now en-route to Las Vegas. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine.
The thank you note was a nice added bonus. I see that the right man won!

Everybody’s invited to Vegas to play Wii with me. Though now it’s become very apparent that I’m going to have to invest in a new t.v.

If only I had known that the Wii was going to cause such a huge amount of churn in your life! I can’t for the “How to procrastinate with a Wii” post!!!

well, this is a simple concept with a very deep meaning… not many people nowadays know how to say thank you for the little kindness shown to them by others.
